The linked article is a must read from the Washington Post;http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/29/AR2005042901191.html
The article states there have been 300+ mass graves found in Iraq since US forces entered the country in 2003. These 18 discussed in the article are near Samawah, about 150 miles southeast of Baghdad.
US investigators are recovering bodies from the graves in Iraq. A group helping to investigate the crimes by Saddam Hussein to his own people were showing the graves to journalists.
"Investigators said that women and children were forced to stand at the edge of the pits, then shot with AK-47 assault rifles. Casings were found near the site, they said....Ten of the 18 trenches are believed to hold remains. Magnetic imaging was used to help reach the estimate of 1,500 victims....Of the 113 bodies removed from one trench, two-thirds were children or teenagers. Most of the children were very young, and 10 were infants, authorities said."
