Interesting article by CNN which points to a few of the quotes of recent history which it seems everyone can recite. Included are Reagan, Bush II and Dean.
We are almost far enough removed from the Reagan presidency to see how he will be written into history books. "Grandfather like respect and charisma" might be reasonable characterization of his leadership.
Reaganomics have been demonized by a loud minority for years. The negativity toward his economic policy (tax cuts in 1982, CATO, JEC, DeLong-questions tax cut benefits) has steadily faded into the small print of history.
Another favorite not mentioned; At the first debate of Reagan-Mondale in 1984, Reagan said "I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience." (courtesy, Nieman Foundation).
History books may find it more difficult then usual to find negativity in the Reagan's 8 years in office. From helping to end the Cold War to communicating with comedy as he did so well, for sake of balance, Iran-Contra will be included.
